Lactoferrin

Jarrow brand has Apolactoferrin which has slightly different mechanism of action than lactoferrin. Both can be derived similarly from cows, but they are not the same chemical. Lactoferrin is more protective of mucosa lining. Apolactoferrin does not have the same iron binding ability. Both have anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antiviral properties.

Apolactoferin has low to no iron which means it will bind MORE iron than lactoferrin. So it's much better than lactoferrin if you want lower free iron in the body and/therefore use it as antibacterial. Because apolactoferrin will take that iron from bacteria.. Lactoferrin is better for increasing iron bioavailabilty, increasing hemoglobin in the body. Not soo good as antibacterial...

Started with 50mg pure lactoferrin tonight, think I will go for 100mg/day depending how this goes tonight, my sleep cycles are delicate, hoping for a non insomnia like side effect.

Also started with FC-Cidal last week as another biome modifier, so far no negatives, so hopefully helping, planning to take one a day for 2 months(full bottle).  @tim-2

Speaking of delicate sleep, I wish I could sleep through the night eight-hour strait and wake up refreshed. That'd be a major game-changer for me. I think it's related to bacterial overgrowth.

I'm really curious to hear your response to FC-Cidal too. Better sleep, better mood. All things to expect from reduced bacterial load. And, btw, where have you purchased FC-Cidal? I found a place once, but they stopped carrying it, and so I eventually got refunded. Tim has recommended it as an alternative to antibiotics. So I'm really curious to try it as well.

@christian  Low VA has definitely helped over the last 3yrs, I now get 8-9hrs of sleep most nights, but it is broken up sleep, longest stretch I can get is 6hrs(happens couple times a week), but usually it is waking every 2-3hrs.  Before low VA, I was pretty much waking every 1-2hrs consistent, with other nights full insomnia.  I am post accutane, my sleep was destroyed by this, but never realized it at the time, thought is was diet, too much hockey, first time Dad, and just getting old...  but like you the goal has always been to get back to 8hrs straight 365 days a year, haven't had this in a decade now.  Not even sure how I survived this 🙂

I to believe it is gut related but also liver, liver not being able to deliver enough glucose through the night, so stress hormones are released to keep blood sugar stable, and this release causes the wakings.  I'm sure bacterial overgrowth is a factor in this.

So far FC-Cidal response has been good, nothing bad to report and seems like less breakouts, so skin liking it too.  I just got it shipped from Amazon.ca  But the Dysbiocide was sold out everywhere, and seems it had a name change(BiomeBalance), but will keep trying to get hold of it and try it next.

Taken two doses of lactoferrin so far, and not sure if coincidence or not, but nose extremely itchy, sneezy, running like crazy, tons of kleenex used in last 48hrs.

Slept great last night, hoping tonight is the same.

I wonder if apolactoferrin may deplete zinc.

Why? It binds to Iron not zinc..

Wow, that sounds exhausting to wake up every 1 to 2 hours every night. I'm glad you could improve your sleep quality. I don't know whether or not it's possible to achieve 8 hours of sleep straight through the night. Somehow I believe it's possible, so idealistic. When others can, why not myself too? We'll get there. Everyone on this forum is relentless, who else would try such a restrictive diet and try to exclude as much VA from the foods they eat as possible?

You're right to mention an overburdened liver too. NAC improved my sleep, for instance, but amino acids don't work for me, I suspect the gut to be the culprit there, so glycine and taurine haven't helped me much. I wonder what lactoferrin will do. It's been such a long time since I last tried it, honestly, I can't remember the particular effects.

Have you found a good night of sleep supplementing with lactoferrin?

Currently I'm trying to invest in a little more soul work, which I tend to dismiss as if my body is well, just my body, and as if there is no mind inheriting it. Even that I use such distinct words raises a suspicion; am I not just one? Probably experiencing oneself as one is a sign of good health. So I know that there is more to good health than just feeding my body the right food, and yet I resist the notion. Journaling and labeling emotions, being aware of my thoughts. It's as if this is second place.

Thanks for letting me know where you've found the rare FC-Cidal. I will check Amazon.ca. Good to know that they've changed the name of the other natural antibiotic.

@christian I will keep you updated here, want to see how this first week goes, last night was decent, did ~6hr stretch to 5:30am, woke then slept til 7:30am, wakings now usually only last about ~5mins.  In the past wakings were jolts, wide awake, heart beating fast, almost impossible to fall back asleep quickly.

I have tried so many many many ideas/diets/supps/drugs that getting to low VA is the last thing I will ever try, I had given up and laughed when I discovered Grant's ideas, but after reading, said this is last attempt at some hypothesis.  Least I feel more normal than for long time, and don't take any supplements to feel this way.  These gut modifiers are the last supps I will attempt, I do think the gut will be tough to heal after accutane, like the last piece of the puzzle, clean liver and gut.  In the end I just want to be free of ever having to know any of this last decade of health research! lol

I have been channeling all my positive vibes into my guitar, lots of growth there and always make time for friends on weekends

@orion

Yes, please, keep us updated on your progress/experience with lactoferrin. Tonight I slept for around six and a half hours straight, but I couldn't fall back asleep again. I'll be turning and turning, would go to the toilet, return to bed in the hope to find some restful sleep again. And repeat. Argh.

I haven't been aware that Accutane also affects the gut in such terrible ways. From what I gather, it's pure poison and a real surprise that such a substance is still on the market and prescribed to young teens and adults. My health has gotten worse over time because I started to take SSRIs with 17, later Propecia and Methylphenidate (Ritalin) joined the wicked cocktail. Whatever pharma throws at you, avoid it like the plague. 🙂 If only I knew back then.

Have you found success with other supplements directed at the gut? I've been dabbling with low-dose antibiotics, they seem to improve my clarity of thought a little. Cascara sagrada, activated charcoal helps too.
