Quote from leap7 on May 22, 2020, 1:33 am@puddleduck That's really interesting, thank you so much for sharing 🙂 I have to say that as I am progressing, I am getting less and less of those upsetting ruminating moments. I also agree that having an increase in energy and mental clarity makes navigating relationships and feelings much more intuitive.

Quote from leap7 on May 22, 2020, 1:48 amHere are some other things that I thought might be worth mentioning- would be very interested to hear any thoughts.
For the past month, I had been taking thiamine mononitrate in liquid form, a type that Garrett Smith mentioned in one of his videos. When I first started supplementing with this, I noticed an increase in mental irritation - getting annoyed or upset at petty things - but not rumination. This stopped after a while. Recently, I started supplementing with Allithiamine from Ecological Formulas. When I first started supplementing with this supplement, I also noticed an increase in agitation. Not sure what this could mean. However, I also feel an increase in energy.
Also, recently, when I had a headache, I took a dropperful of the thiamine mononitrate and my headache was almost immedately gone. Also, I think when I supplement B1, I don't clench my jaw when sleeping anymore.
I've had another episode where my jaw muscles relaxed. This time it was the muscles on the left side of my face. All of a sudden my left jaw muscle, around my masseter area, just started spasming, and then relaxed. The effect of this lasted for about 1-2 days, which is longer than it lasted the first time this happened, and it felt so nice to feel my jaw muscle completely relaxed. This has never happened to me before starting the detox. This aspect of the detox is really interesting to me because my masseters have always bothered me with the way they bulge out. I've even considered getting botox for them. (If you're not familiar with what I am talking about, look up "botox masseter hypertrophy"). I can't correlate these episodes with any particular food or supplement really. However, the past two times it's happened have been on the days where I stayed awake the whole night before... Now, I believe my muscles have returned to their original size. I would really like my jaw muscles to relax indefinitely. Maybe I just need let time pass to detox more A? Or is there another way?

Have you tried supplementing with a small amount of taurine? I suspect taurine is often depleted in VA toxic individuals, it is used to conjugate VA in bile. Supplementing with it is a suggested treatment for Hypervitaminosis A.
Adequate taurine is needed to achieve normal thiamin, magnesium and potassium levels.
The easiest way to see if taurine helps is to consume 2 or 3 cans of Red Bull per week over a period of time.

Quote from leap7 on May 23, 2020, 10:27 pmThanks @tim-2. I haven't tried supplementing with Taurine. But I actually was having a Red Bull while my jaw relaxed for the second time. Do you know of any Taurine supplements/other good ways to get Taurine, and what an ideal dose could be?

You're welcome. A high intake from food is about 400 mg per day, most get much less than this. I would suggest an amount that is supportive to your dietary intake like about 300 mg per day. One Red Bull contains 1000 mg so one can every three days seems like a good idea to me. I haven't bought it as a supplement, I don't think it is wise to take large amounts of it.

Quote from Sam on May 24, 2020, 4:27 amI have cervical dystonia and every time I take vitamin A supplement, dystonia gets really bad. I started to supplement with taurine two weeks ago and taurine also worsens my dystonia. I think that this is because taurine takes vitamin a out of liver and then I start to feel just like when taking vitamin A supplements.
I truly believe taurine is beneficial and even though it makes my symptoms really bad, I'm just going to keep taking it and hope that eventually it will pass and everything will be better then.

Quote from Sam on May 24, 2020, 5:09 amQuote from Arena on May 24, 2020, 4:35 amThis article says taurine mitigated the VA toxicity symptoms in rat, so I wonder why you experience the opposite!
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0308814607005420
From the article that you linked, "Furthermore, the level of vitamin A in the serum of rats treated with taurine and vitamin A was higher than that of rats treated with vitamin A alone.".
So when you take taurine there will be high amounts of vitamin A in your circulation. Taurine detoxes the liver so maybe all that vitamin A that is stored in our liver gets moving in your blood after you take taurine.

Quote from tim on May 24, 2020, 5:46 amI think taking amounts much higher than what we would normally get via diet is a bad idea but small supplemental amounts are likely to be a good idea imo. That way it will gently support detox.
