@jaj

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying soluble fibre isn't an important part of detox, I just think that it doesn't fully protect against detox symptoms. It seems like people often tend to actually get ongoing worsening of symptoms after they start consuming more beans.

well I think having more soluble fibre actually helps in getting excess vitamin A out of the body . I remember a year ago going nuts on beans suddenly and I started consuming rice and black beans everyday ( around 300 g) within a week or so I got colitis and I never had colitis in my life . My intestines were normal before that . I think what probably happened the excess retinol in the bile burned down my gut lining and I got colitis . Even I have seen Dr Smith mentioning about going easy on soluble fiber . You dont want excess Vitamin A to be dumped , it can cause havoc to organs .

@r-2

Can you eat beans now without any problems?

So sorry to hear about worsening symptoms. Yes definitely the soluble fibre needs to be done low & slow. Many people are reporting a worsening of symptoms. I introduced enthusiastically & felt terrible (high anxiety, pulsing in ears etc).

If the understanding is correct then this is just a phase as the body gets used to it & the soluble fibre is necessary. Dr Smith thinks by speeding up the system it’s causing too much retinoic acid to be dumped.  This fits with my experience so makes sense to me. I’m being very cautious now!

Imo we want to get the vA out of the body in a slow way so not to create bottlenecks in the system which involves a number of enzymes any of which can be running slowly (or relatively slower than the previous step). Bottlenecks mean a build up of a particular vA metabolite none of which are good. Retinoic acid is meant to be the worst.

About 2 months ago I started soluble fiber supplements and had sleeping issues for a week. Now it's all gone and i'm about 30-60g of total soluble fiber intake a day. I might decrease a bit because the dry mouth is a bit bothersome, but as for the detox symptoms, it's like reliving detox symptoms i felt 6 months ago. I'm going to continue with the soluble fiber.

5How are you doing @pano200? I hope that your eyes are better? It has been 18 months or so for you now. Maybe time for an update? Thank you for sharing if at all possible.

hmm nothing really to update, still cruising along. only big update was the start of high doses of soluble fiber. eyes are better, but dryness isn't gone yet, i don't think it will til i hit a certain threshold i think. muscles seem to be getting looser very slowly while on the higher dose soluble fiber, could be coincidence, but who knows. i'll prob update at 24 months or whenever something significant changes.

Thanks for your answer @pano200

My eyes have not been dry anymore for about four months. I was on high lipophilic thiamine when I started the zero A diet exactly six months ago. For the last five months or so the eyes have been normally wet!!!!

As to the relaxed muscles it seems to be slowly happening, very slowly. It goes together with an increased suppleness of the fascia. But every time I fall into detox mode I go backwards. However, hands and feet are exceedingly supple and very strong and stay so. It seems to improve from the extremities, but it might well be that the whole chain of ligaments and fascia are becoming freee. At bit as though a general Dupytren's was going away. Good luck!

@ourania

What kind of muscle problems are you talking about? Can vitamin a toxicity affect muscles?

nice work on the eyes! i think i'm just so incredibly vitamin A toxic it'll probably be an additional 6m-1yr to see really good results.. i hope. my muscles are still just calcified pieces of junk right now, have to do a lot of active release technique when i do have issues. some day though... some day.

@tim-2 Thanks for your suggestion with the RedBull. I drank some more shortly after reading your post and I remember noticing slight twitching in my jaw muscles directly after. It wasn't a full-on spasm-relaxation though - I just felt some muscles twitch for maybe 2 seconds. I think perhaps some smaller muscles in my face relaxed. For the past two times, when my larger muscles relaxed, they spasmed for a good amount of time, like around 10 seconds? I had some more RedBulls after that, but I think the muscle effect was no longer there. I did experience some bad nausea that I've never felt before on the detox - I felt like I wanted to throw up, but I didn't. Also, generally, since starting the detox, I feel more nausea/dizziness while riding in cars sometimes. I used to never really get nauseous or dizzy in cars unless I was reading in the car.

I just took a 500 mg Taurine supplement that I purchased recently, but am not noticing any effect. I also recently started taking a biotin supplement to see if that would help anything but I also have not noticed any direct effect.

I also want to add that it's really quite monumental to me that my jaws relaxed in the first place. The mainstream explanation for large masseters is that the person chews too much gum, or chews tough things like beef jerky, or grinds/clenches their teeth at night. Because I never noticed myself grinding or clenching my teeth at night, I thought it was because I chewed too much gum in middle school. However, because of these instances where my muscles just completely relaxed, I'm beginning to think there is something else going on. I'm curious to know exactly what's happening in my face to make the muscle appear so large, what is happening when the muscle relaxing, and how I can continue relaxing the muscles. Do I just need to let more time pass to detox A? Should I supplement with something else? Should I take out any supplements? Potassium?

@ourania @pano200 I'd be curious to know more about the issues you are having with your muscles.

I also want to add that I have think I have made more progress with my flexibility while on the low A diet.

Thank you everyone for your insightful posts!
