Low vitamin D after over half year on diet

PreviousPage 2 of 4Next

Lol lard is the last thing I want to eat

why?  When researching my ancestral diets, I found it got my ancestors here to this point, through challenging conditions.  You can't argue with success!  🙂

I'm currently using one strip of bacon a day to melt into lard to coat the pan and saute the onions for our egg white omellete.  Then I cut up the one strip into bits and put it in the omelette.

I'm a rebel.

A) I am traumatized by anything wapf and the thought of saturated fats. I boil my food.

B) doesn't grant specifically talk about lard as the cause of deterioration in VA deficient animals?

I don't think it's bad in moderation but too late for that in my case and vitamin d from food would be negligible anyway.

Garett seems like was running with vitamin D is bad idea for a while. Mcdougall also is anti vitamin D only to be used as last resort. Oh well I will take a 1000iu 5X a week and see what happens.

For me, the idea of any supplement is as scary as the wapf is to you!  🙂

Where in Canada? Some places like Toronto are basically at the same latitude as southern France.

Did you measure your Vitamin D before starting the diet to know whether it has decreased or not during the diet?

I'm skeptical now of the claims about Vitamin D. Vitamin D proponents claim that basically everyone are deficient no matter where they live. If you live in the north you're deficient because the sun is so weak, if you live in the south you're deficient because your skin is so dark. If you're a white guy living in the south you're deficient because you're not spending hours outside every day with your shirt off.

People saying we have this new epidemic because back in the day people spent way more time outside than we do now. I'm not sure even that is true, but whats often neglected is that back in the day people typically wore far less revealing clothing because of cultural standards. There were no miniskirts, t-shirts or tank tops, shorts were only for boys and not something adult men typically wore. We have never been as permissive of showing skin and being half-naked in public as we are today, so it doesn't make sense that modern culture would somehow promote insufficient sunshine exposure.

If Vitamin D is practically non-existent in food and is so difficult to obtain from sunlight exposure, then maybe we are actually not meant to get so much of it. I think VA toxicity actually does a better job of explaining certain observations that have been attributed to Vitamin D, like how Scandinavia has a very high prevalence of auto-immune disease (there is a very high intake of VA-rich foods in these countries, such as dairy, liver products, carrots and spinach, and cod liver oil used to be popular as well) whereas Russia which is on the same latitude, does not. Anecdotally I also know a lot of people who hate being in the sun yet have no autoimmune issues, and others who spend as much time outside as they can yet still have autoimmune issues.

Some thoughts:

Rickets used to be epidemic in northern europe due to extreme deficiency.

Northern Europeans may have developed fair complexions due to Vitamin D deficiency being common. This idea is problematic though because Asiatic Siberians do not have fair skin.

Animal fats including cod liver oil prevented rickets.

VA toxicity definitely interferes with Vitamin D.

People use UVB blocking sunscreen more than ever before.

People shower more than ever before which removes the skin oils that are necessary for Vitamin D absorption.

The angle matters, it appears.   "Naked at Noon" author Krispen Sullivan says:

"Krispin Sullivan – a pioneer in the study of vitamin D research and author of the internationally regarded book ‘Naked at Noon’: “For the purposes of optimising our vitamin D status and thus maximising our protection against the many cancers and other serious diseases vitamin D insufficiency is associated with, we need to get a certain amount of sun exposure (though certainly not too much) – in the ‘middle of the day’.

Or one other writer says:  When your shadow is the shortest.

I don't need much time at all in the sun at noon to feel like I got something.    Like two minutes per side.  But I'm about one step away from albino coloring lol.

I think I might get one of those lamps to use in the darkest parts of winter.  Mercola sells them, right?

redacted

Actually I thought about it and decided I don't trust lamp makers either.  That's it.  I'm going to step up my noon sunshine summer game, coz I'm going cold turkey this winter.

Been reading about the coimbra protocol. People healing serious diseases on it. I remember Grant in a comment section of one of his articles here was arguing with a guy who suggested increasing D to detox A. That made some sense to me at the time but I understand grants anti supplement stance. However, I want more and faster healing and I am more willing to expirement. How do we explain the success high vitamin D is having on people? Are we really ready to dismiss the benefirs of sunshine
