So my background is I was into WAPF for a few yrs drank raw milk, did the cod liver oil, liver, even ate some of my placenta. Then found Ray Peat and decided sugar was the end all be all for metabolism along with the fat soluble nutrients as @Alex has just regurgitated about vitamin A being necessary for thyroid as he is a Ray Peater too apparently. Well that diet nearly killed me. I was needing upwards of 3,000 calories a day, at only 105 lbs, temp 98.9 from morning through night, pulse at 110 as well which was HELL. Panic attacks, adrenaline rushes like I said from hell. Massive anxiety. IBS-C. White coated tongue from the dairy. Rapid tooth decay from OJ and sugar. Many people have similar stories as me. Massive anxiety and adrenaline sensitivity. Even Ray Peat himself couldn't sleep through the night without waking up to get more sugar. (that was me times a 100). He also had migraines he cured with ice cream. I often said pasta and ice cream saved my life as I was able to get control over my racing heart. But I think it was the starch not the ice cream.

I literally mentioned in my post earlier why the ray peat diet will cause issues with Vitamin A and cause vitamin A toxicity.

"Now if you go on a Ray peat diet as a slow oxidiser it is basically an early death wish and you certainly will have issues with Vitamin A while on a ray peat diet as a slow oxidiser. High sugar consumption, high calcium consumption, high vit A and then you get bad Vitamin A toxicity."

 High sugar consumption slowing down ALDH, draining mineral stores, high calcium intake blocking potassium from entering the cells which stops the thyroid from working correctly.

I didn't mention anything about you except the vitamin A. I know you disagree with the sugar and calcium, but that was the main tenant of the Ray Peat diet. And I understood the why. I don't just blindly follow something, his explanations made sense to me. The oxidizer thing isn't the end all be all either. It's just one theory among hundreds on how to be healthy. I don't think sugar is the poison people make it out to be I think it was the combo. As we know Grant is now consuming honey and doesn't seem to be doing any worse for it. If he were to have added cane sugar maybe.

Yeah I am not completely against sugar consumption either, I think in moderation is fine, but I was just highlighting that high sugar consumption can cause issues with your Vitamin A metabolism.

And yeah if you do have overgrowths in yeast, mold or bad bacteria then you almost certainly will have issues with Vitamin A as the sugar is just feeding these bad guys like crazy.

@janelle525

I don't think you're stupid, that was my point. You do seem to bounce from guru to guru though, completely following their tenets to the detriment of your own health. To me, thats sad.

WAPF to Ray Peat to Garrett and Grant to Karen Hurd.

I'm off the guru bandwagon and no one is free from criticism to me, even Grant, though I believe I've always been respectful to him. If he wants he can shut the blog down or ban me or others.

You have constantly misrepresented what I say saying that I don't think vitamin A is an issue as just one example. Of course it's an issue; in some people sometimes. Hypervitaminosis a is well documented. In most cases it happens with supplementation though, it could happen with liver. In such cases you simply quit your high vitamin A source.

But a years long elimination diet has no evidence on a large scale to prove that this is helpful for most people is not smart IMO, just because one person did it. To advise them to cut out eggs and Dairy if these foods don't bother you; there's just no evidence for this being helpful large scale. Most people here got better simply because they quit cod liver oil and supplements. I'm sorry if that opinion of mine hurts feelings.

It doesn't hurt my feelings you disagree with beef beans and rice. You can disagree all you want. Not like that's anything new in the health world. It's just that typically those people don't stick around to argue about it for yrs. Do you feel like you are trying to save people from possible complications from this diet?

I didn't say people can't criticize Grant, I said he is wise to not engage in it. It's his life and his health. I shouldn't be engaging with you either. It's my life and my health. I don't blindly follow something, I fully believed in cod liver oil and vitamin A being the key to good teeth and good hormones, I wanted to have a baby with the most perfect facial structure and teeth. I was kinda obsessed with that, I believed what they were saying was true I saw WAPF babies who were so healthy. And I was pretty healthy on raw milk. My birth and recovery was amazing. It was when I switched to the metabolism boosting stuff I went downhill. And i fully believed in the metabolism stuff too, it wasn't a blind experiment. Once I got the panic attacks and felt like I was dying they don't just turn off when you switch your diet, it was a process of figuring out where I went wrong. Such is life. We don't have all the answers laid out in front of us. But thanks again for dissing me for following researchers and scientists.

I am willing to admit I have overgrowths. I am trialing cutting all added sugars except some maple syrup. So far I slept much better last night. No telling what heals my buttcrack rash though.

Yeah so I think this is actually the reason behind why you have issues with vitamin A, and from what you have written in here in the past I have always thought you had fungal issues. So going low vitamin A takes off any burden on ALDH and allows your body to deal with this fungal overgrowth better.

Coffee enemas help clear yeast out the body too. When I have focused on addressing candida and mold I then could tolerate high vitamin A foods with no issues when before they would cause me issues. Candex enzymes are good for eating up candida and fungi, Undecylenic acid good for killing candida and mold. When I first went low vit A and was toxic the Undecylenic acid  gave me severe neurotransmitter reactions to where I thought the supplement was toxic itself. Now 2 years later when I tried it again I don't have that severe neurotransmitter reaction anymore, I also find it kills cravings for sugar and carbs so it is dealing with candida nicely . DHM can speed up ALDH and takes off the burden off ALDH which is being inhibited by the fungi/mold producing Acetaldehyde.

Also noticed this when I am living in mold carrots would give me issues, when I didn't live in mold I could eat carrots with no issues.

Also noticed when i eat lots of oats, if i was to eat carrots they would cause me issues, when I stop the oats and I can eat the carrots and feel fine, so oats are feeding yeast in my body. And this is why I think some people who go low vitamin A have issues tolerating the higher vitamin A foods ever again, you start eating a bunch of oats, starch, sourdough bread and this is just feeding the yeast or mold in your body and keeping them happy. I still avoid carrots but if i wanted to I am able to eat them.

Yeah I likely do have fungal issues. But I never notice any immediate issue from vitamin A or specific high vitamin A foods. I could eat carrots if I want too. I can eat pretty much anything I want without much issue now. I just choose not to. The only thing I still struggle to digest are nuts. And I don't feel well with much caffeine. Overstimulating. I disagree that starchy foods are a problem. I likely wouldn't be here discussing how good my health is now if I didn't switch from sugary foods to starch. Ray believed starch feeds all the bad guys, but I don't notice anything. I don't crave oats or bread or rice.

Edited to add: I take it back I probably would struggle to add a bunch of milk in due to the lactose, but I think I could build up the ability to digest it. I just don't think about milk because I don't have a desire to add it back in.

I discussed this with my husband last night, and he told me if I do not ignore the trolling and clear mentally unwell behavior of this person he is going to block my access to this forum. Grant did delete one of her posts where she tried to slander me. Hopefully it is a wake up call.

@janelle525 I do think sometimes you fall victim to getting very defensive over anyone who critiques the low Vit A diet/Vitamin A is a toxin theory because you are having good results with the diet yourself so you kind of take it personally in a way and feel the need to defend against anyone who says otherwise.

@jessica2 I do think you should try and forgive Janelle for the twitter thing as that happened a while ago and I don't think its helpful to hold grudges against people

It's when we go on to poopoo the theory and keep saying stuff on forums saying it doesn't work and blah and blah. I could have easily said that at certain points with my dry eyes and heavy menstrual bleeding. But I refuse to poo poo this theory no matter how badly it goes for me. The stakes are way too high. I do believe the world is being poisoned, if we can get the masses to be on board we can shift public perception of it being added to everything and young people's lives being destroyed by accutane. People coming on here poo pooing the diet isn't going to help people getting poisoned by accutane.

@janelle525

You have clear agenda. Anyone who reports negative results or questions the validity of a several years long low VA elimination diet should be silenced for the "greater good". Nevermind that people can eat a fairly normal diet with dairy and eggs and also NOT take accutane or CLO.

In case you hadn't noticed I'm one of the few that commented on an Accutane thread offering possible solutions and also testing nutritional lithium, a possible solution to Accutane poisoning, and reporting results. Yet my presence in every thread has to be repeatedly questioned by you and spammed by Joe. As I have tried this diet, I have just as much right to comment here as you do.

Maybe you can just ignore me from now on and I will gladly return that favor.

Yeah I don’t think it’s wise for Janelle to say these things, as it risks coming across as cult-like. It's important that we remain open to different perspectives and avoid turning our beliefs into something rigid and dogmatic like some people on here are guilty of...
