New interview with Dr. Garrett Smith
Quote from lil chick on July 12, 2020, 7:19 amSkin problems are right there for us to see. Perhaps we can use them as a metaphor for what is going on in the gut.
Tim, you think your skin benefits from killing the inhabitants (via h202). You aren't alone there, many, many acne "solutions" are about killing germs. And there might be some short-term benefits. But are we getting in the way of natural processes?
I really haven't seen that much benefit from wholesale skin disinfection. I've read that there are overgrowths of things like demodectic mites and their associated germs (from their poop) on the skin.
But are they our symbionts? Are we sure that this isn't just the clean-up crew?
If I get IMPETIEGO... well, then I will use a topical just on that spot. Because IMO things have gotten out of hand with the balance of symbiont and host.
In our metaphor, a case of impetiego might be somewhat like getting an ulcer.
Another example of this is gingivitis. I've never intuited that blasting the mouth with strong mouthwashes was the way to go. (although people tell me it has worked for them, and perhaps I'm wrong) But I WOULD treat an acute gum infection.
But that is just me and my ruminations.

Also my muscles are like more stiff. I think that 300mg a day is kicking my ass. 😀 I will take only 1 capsule every 7 days. It is like 42mg a day which is still a lot for benfo.. It should work better.. I will try drop B complex if that B2 is not doing more harm then good like Tim says..@jiri Yep took me a long time to work up to bigger doses of Alli-B1, was taking it every 3 days, then every 2, then daily. It is mentioned it will bring out lots of paradoxical or detox symptoms in the first days, weeks which can be a pain to work through.

Quote from Jiří on July 12, 2020, 10:00 am@orion When I do "pinch test" for hydration it looks like I am also dehydrated a lot. Maybe that is the reason for that headache, red tired eyes... It feels almost the same like when I was using a lot of magnesium oil. Maybe B1 makes magnesium in me more bioavailable or what and that makes me dehydrated heh.. Anyway I don't know if it is a good idea take that B1 if it can make imbalance in minerals and other B vitamins...

Quote from lil chick on July 12, 2020, 10:36 am@jiri you have said how the headache that many associate with detox is JUST LIKE a hangover.
I concur, and I wonder if a hangover and the detox headache ARE exactly the same thing! Bear with me.
It is said that alcohol pushes VA into the tissues and out of the liver.
Going low-VA also pushes VA into the tissues and out of the liver into the tissues. (we assume)
Regarding a chronic dehydration, maybe it is also similar!
Is one of the reasons alcohol makes us pee... because the body (kidneys) are trying detox us? (and not just of the alcohol but the VA too) in both cases causing a transient dehydration?

When did your problems start? Was there any trauma or event that initiated it? Any work related toxic exposure? Any medications or surgery you had before you developed low metabolism, Im guessing just accutane? What dental work have you had, such as amalgam fillings or root canals?
Have you tested your iron levels?
What diet are you following at the moment? Are you getting micronutrients like selenium and iodine? Are you getting plenty of whole body sunlight? Any supplements you've been taking long term?
Nofap and avoiding hot showers will help a bit with boosting testosterone. It's an awkward subject and not a popular suggestion but with the symptoms you are experiencing an experienced practioner of tcm or taoism would rightly advise to minimise sexual activity.
Do you have any gut related symptoms, is your bowel function normal?
@tim-2Sorry for late reply, was doing some experiments with iodine. As I wrote somewhere else I don't remember most of my first over 20 years of my life (but as Ourania in Thiamine story I'm starting to get these memories slowly back with allithiamine, like random flashes 🙂 ). No trauma (besides parents divorce) as I know (psychologist and hypnosis did not find any specific event). Never worked in any toxic work (my dad was fixing cars but don't think I got anything in his workshop). Never had any surgery. I don't remember any specific medications, just that I was weak and cold from a long time. I never took accutane as far as I know, not sure why because I was trying all other things for acne. I probably had amalgams when I was a kid but they were replaced a long time ago. No root canals.I'm 34 now and my mum said I had acne from when I was around 14 years old. The only time I was almost acne free was over 3 years ago when for 2 weeks I was on "optimal diet" (from polish doctor Kwasniewski, it's high fat low carb, 80% calories from fat, 10% from proteins and 10% from carbs, fat mostly from pork and 2-3 egg yolks). That would point to problems with insulin but my morning glucose was always ok (2019-08: 83,70 mg/dl) and in 2020-05 my HbA1C was 4.77% (2019-08: 4.79 %). Then maybe my skin is more reactive to IGF1? Or my insulin stay elevated for long after eating? I still have no idea.Iron levels2018-11: Iron: 152,00 μg/dl, Ferritine: 132 ng/ml2019-05: Iron: 153,80 μg/dl, Ferritine: 119 ng/ml2019-08: Iron: 197,80 μg/dl, Ferritine: 75 ng/ml2019-10: Iron: 159 μg/dL, Ferritine: 43,7 ng/mL2020-05: Iron: 119.50 μg/dl, Ferritine: 103 ng/ml.I need to find some way of automatic extraction of all blood test results to excel or other database (I have electronic versions of all my blood tests from 2015, there are too many numbers to do that by hand and I'm too lazy..., there is https://www.labtestanalyzer.com/ but only for English language). At the moment I'm 5-6 days a week on very low vitA and on weekends when visiting family, friends etc. I eat different stuff that contain more vitA (like some fruits, dairy, sometimes one whole egg) but trying to avoid the biggest sources of vitA. Being completely low vitA is unsustainable to me. Around 140 grams of mixed grains (now mostly millet and buckwheat, some brown rice), 200 grams dry different beans, 300 grams of meat (mostly meat from turkey thighs now, without skin, I avoid red meat after I found my iron levels are high), around 140 grams of mushrooms (mostly Agaricus bisporus as it's easily available and cheapest one, sometimes some others like Pleurotus, Shiitake and some other, much more different mushrooms in season where I gather them with family in the forest, it's like national sport in Poland 😀 ). Around 50 grams of fat from refined coconut oil or olive oil. Some onion and 1-2 potatoes cooked together with grains. Some small amount of raisins with a teaspoon of honey. Plus different herbs and salt (will come back to salt in a moment). I average 2400-2700 calories per day, I'm mostly sedentary (programmer...), after going low vitA needed to increase to not lose weight. Last two years (have data from an electronic scale) my weight has been quite stable at around 71-75 kg.Cronometer is showing over 76 μg selenium per day, I also supplement 50 μg every second day.Iodine.This gave me a pause. Last 1-2 weeks I started to feel cold when sleeping and my morning temperature started falling. I thought that I did not change anything but this comment made me remember that 2-3 weeks ago I found old himalayan salt in the kitchen and started using it instead of standard iodized salt. So I started experimenting with it and it looks like iodine was the missing link. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Not sure why I did not look at it more extensively, I tried it 2 or 3 years ago (before I knew about testing morning body temperature, using the Lugol version) and it did not bring much improvement (too little thiamin?).So I started experimenting:First day: 2 teaspoons of himalayan salt (I already have food prepared for day) and 2 teaspoons of iodized salt (so around 15-20 grams of salt and around 140% RDA of iodine from potassium iodate) = warm at night, next morning 36.6Second day: 1 teaspoon of himalayan salt and 1 teaspoon of iodized salt (together around 8-10 grams) = cold feet at night, next morning 36.3Today: 2 teaspoons of himalayan salt (so no additional iodine), will seeTomorrow: 3 teaspoons of iodized salt, will seeI also ordered nascent iodine for next week testing (so clean iodine, looks like Smith thinks iodine = good, potassium iodide = bad, not sure if there is a difference with potassium iodate).Whenever it is sunny I go out for a walk in the park, I hate sunbathing but I like walking so I do it every day for at least one hour.Supplements differ much over the years, I always preferred to not take them but it was not working so last year I bought hair testing from Smith but without support (you send a hair sample, do blood tests and you get a report what to supplement). What I'm taking now:allithiamine: 100 mg per day (down from Smith 150 mg) = helpfulmethylated B complex: one capsule 2 times a week (high potency, Lonsdale suggest one capsule every day, when allithiamine make cells work you could need more of them) = not sure, will probably drop to once a week but add 1-2 times a week methylated folic acid (last week blood test showed folic acid: 8,9 ng/ml (lab range: 4.4 - 31.0) and B12: 736 pg/ml (lab range: 160 - 800))magnesium 135 mg per day = not sure, as addition to allithiaminevit K2 MK4: 5 mg (Smith, drops, 5 drops/day) = helpful, less sensitive teethscalcium: 500-1000mg per day (as bone powder) = looks helpful, less sensitive teeths (will experiment with taking less and checking if K2 is enough)selenium: 50 μg every second day (down from Smith 100 μg every day) = not suremolybdenum: 150 μg per day (down from Smith 300 μg every day) = not sure, but looks like it help me detox alcohol faster (I took additional 300 μg and instead of two nights with worsen sleep I had only one, checked with Oura Ring)chromium: 200 mg per day (Smith) = not sure, will drop after bottle is emptyboron: 3 mg 5 times per week (Smith) = not sure, will drop after bottle is emptytaurine: 500 mg 3 times a week (down from Smith 500 mg per day) = not surevit D3: stopped for summer = helpful, I started taking it in 2015 when I found that I have 9 ng/ml of it, not much, 1000-4000 per day (in same capsule with K2 MK7), stopped taking when went low vitA over 1,5 year ago, first winter when I was strict with diet my blood test of vit D did not fall at all (I would not believe that it's possible if I did not saw it on my own blood tests, I wrote about it here), this winter, as I wrote earlier, I was strict only 5-6 days a week, it fall to 18 ng/ml so I supplemented it in MayNo sexual activities for a long time and rarely (like every few weeks) masturbation.Regarding gut I'm still having gases and are sometimes bloated (now from adding onions) and when I want to introduce any new fibrous food (like now I will be testing moving from millet to oats and barley) I have a few weeks before I will stop having so much gases. It's not as horrible and painful as last year when I started eating beans but it's still somewhat uncomfortable. After eating bigger portions I frequently have one or two burps (last week H. pylori blood antibodies test returned negative). Bowel functioning normal.

Quote from lil chick on July 16, 2020, 3:03 pm@matrixik thank you for the idea about iodine. I wonder whether we are getting enough iodine here. I should test it a little bit. I just really love sea salt.
I suppose the answer of eating iodized salt is popular, but I do want to mention that there may be other ways, such as eating kelp.

Quote from Matrixik on July 16, 2020, 10:49 pmYea, looks like this time iodine have quite noticeable effect on me.
Day 3: 2 teaspoons of himalayan salt (so no additional iodine), sleep shorter than average, feeling cold at night and cold feet, morning temp 36.2°C
Also I underestimated how much salt I have in one teaspoon, today: 3 teaspoons of iodized salt (gave me 20 grams of salt and around 300% RDA of iodine).

Not sure how much carotenoids are in kelp.
