Snoring possible link to vit A & gluten

I started low VA dieet couple of weeks ago and already noticed that my dry skin is much better. But it seems like that my snoring problem got worse. I know that snoring is related to hypothyroidism, my last measured TSH is 10. I wondered if it is related to detox effect of the low VA diet I had started and searched the web for an answer. "

I already noticed that my snoring is much worse when I eat pasta (wheat). Or actually I use the "SnoreLab" app on my phone to measure my snoring. Sometimes the snore score can be near zero, but when I eat pasta it will give a significant rise and usually I feel tired next day as well. It is not only my own observation. On the Internet you can find several stories that snoring will improve dramatically when wheat and and anything with "obvious" gluten is removed from one's dieet.

I stumbled on this article: "https://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/celiac-disease/news/20110208/new-treatment-for-celiac-disease#1

The article mentions that celiac disease is an autoimmune condition and that blocking an inflammatory protein called interleukin-15 (IL-15)  may be beneficial. Medications that block IL-15 are being developed for other inflammatory diseases, including RA.

And now comes the interesting part:

"The new research also shows that retinoic acid, a vitamin-A derivative found in acne treatments such as Retin-A and Accutane, may be complicit in the onset of celiac disease."

“Vitamin A in these patients is a bad idea. Patients at risk should be careful about using retinoids."This may even include topical retinoids if they can enter the bloodstream.

"Those two molecules act together to promote inflammation. The vitamin A derivative seems to fuel the IL-15, but if you block IL-15, retinoids are OK.”

I guess avoiding both gluten and VA is a better idea to get a silent sleep. Someone with similar experiences?

Doesn't durum wheat, which almost all pasta is made out of, have a lot of lutein? That's why it's yellow instead of white like regular white wheat products.

Yes, pasta has more lutein than white flour. You just need to keep in mind that completely avoiding carotenoids is not really possible unless one goes on a very restricted diet, even many meat fats and olive oil have them. You have to choose where you draw the line.

Since I seem sensitive to lutein, I eat pasta once or twice a week.

What I'm saying is that OP might be reacting to the carotenoids. I think he should try white wheat bread without durum, rye, oils, and see if he gets the same results. If he still feels the same way it's the gluten.

Thanks, I will give it a try and post the results here over a few weeks.

I always suspected retin-a was involved in my developing celiac. As far as I know I’m the only person in my family who has been diagnosed. I’m homozygous for one of the genes so supposedly at lower risk. Thanks for the link! Best wishes, Bella

Not to forget the horrible effects of Roundup /glyfosate as well regarding developing diseases/celiac. That is why dr G strongly advice always eating organic if having grains. One of glyfosate's many "treats" is inhibiting vit A from being properly "broken down" by the body (yeah I lost my word of choice there 😂)

Thanks for the link 🙂 the study was an interesting read.

Intersting as I stated snoring with high VA consumption
