Sulphate (sulfate)

‘Our biochemistry can be affected in many ways but the key to restoring health often simply involves gently improving excretion of bile toxins, improving liver health and improving health holistically with the true naturopathic "do no harm" approach: a nutritionally adequate and balanced diet, moderate exercise, sun exposure and relaxation in nature.’

@tim-2 Couldn’t agree more.

Have you looked at Gerald Pollack’s work on structured water and the idea that sun may give us energy too? I think light exposure is very important. Ari Whitten has done some interesting summit talks on ‘light exposure deficiency’.

We’ve currently not got fluoride in the water in most of the U.K. but I heard that that might be changing. I hope not.

I do think in some circumstances that supplements are needed to get people out of a negative situation. However, this needs to be very carefully researched and understood (I do think my biochemistry needs extra B6 and zinc due to pyroluria - I’ve tried without and it’s not been good). However, adding all these things randomly does more harm that good I suspect.

@jaj

Yep sunlight exposure has all sorts of benefits. Also minimizing light exposure at night has many benefits.

Yes the human body has an etheric element as well which can respond to homeopathy and energy healing. I find Paracelsus interesting:

"There is a twofold power active in man – an invisibly acting or vital power, and a visibly acting mechanical force. The visible body has its natural forces, and the invisible body has its natural forces, and the remedy of all diseases or injuries that may affect the visible form are contained in the invisible body, because the latter is the seat of the power that infuses life into the former, and without which the former would be dead and decaying. If we separate the vital force from the physical form, the body dies and putrefies; and by impregnating a dying body with vitality it can be made to live again."

You are lucky to not have fluoridated water, water can also be naturally high in fluoride so it's always a good idea to research the levels in the local water.

There are definitely conditions where people are deficient in certain nutrients despite adequate intake. Perhaps it's not possible to address the underlying causes in every case but personally I would always have a strong focus on correcting the imbalanced physiology that is causing the deficiency while being very conservative about recommending supplements.

@tim-2 could I just ask about retinoic acid and transketolase connection?  I don’t think I knew about this connection. I knew that retinaldehyde depleted B1. I knew that there was a connection between vA toxicity and B1 deficiency. I’m re looking at B1 at the moment and wondered if you had any links for this? Thanks.

I agree with your comments on supplements. I’ve become more and more wary of them. Nutritional therapy teaching suggests the use of way too many imo, ironically. However, when it comes to pyroluria there is consensus (Klinghardt, Anne Pemberton etc) that supplements are required. I’ve tried for two years without pyroluria supplements and tbh I’ve ended up in a mess,  with symptoms specific for this, even though my vitamin A toxicity symptoms have gone. I think if someone has pyroluria (not uncommon) the supplements should be continued during the vA detox.

@jaj

No problem here is my post about transketolase.

@jaj What are the hallmarks of pyroluria? And what pyroluria supplements  do you take?

@jaj @orion

As Jenny has suggested in the original post of this thread, a good way to replenish the body with sulfur which might be lacking in people suffering from SIBO, is taking Epsom salt baths. I took note and organized a huge bag of Epsom salt with 25 kg in it by a fertilizer store. Today is the ninth day in a row I've been taking baths with Epsom salt for an hour.

  • The first evening, I felt pretty energized, and I had a hard time falling asleep after the bath, but this is not something unusual. Also, during this hour period I suddenly felt the urge to type lousy love-lorn rhymes to my ex-girlfriend. Especially at night, when I can't fall asleep and then get up, all these lines and ideas start to pop into my head. I experienced something similar when I was taking up to 1'000 mg of caffeine daily.
  • The third and fourth day, I started to fall asleep in the bath tap. I had a book with me to read but started to feel so relaxed, I drifted off. Also, I've started to get an erection, but it wasn't associated with erotic fantasies, the last couple of days this didn't happen, so I surmise it's related to some stress response? Maybe nitric oxide raised in the stomach as there was an influx of sulfate?
  • Some random memories started to appear, and during the night I would dream more. Sleep wasn't predictable, I had to get up every night again b/c I didn't fall asleep after half an hour. I hope this starts to follow some pattern soon. During baths I would get really emotional at times.
  • Tonight, I've taken the ninth consecutive bath and again, I would doze off just after I experienced some emotional minutes. I've felt really exhausted afterwards, and a deep feeling of relaxation is covering me like a blanket right now.

Epsom salt baths are definitely doing something. I haven't consistently taken them to watch for such profound effects. I feel as if they are healing something.

Thank you, Jenny, for bringing up the topic and recommending Epsom salt baths.

@christian this is a good pyroluria questionnaire. https://www.everywomanover29.com/blog/pyroluria-questionnaire-from-the-antianxiety-food-solution/

There is a defining urine test. In Europe KEAC in Holland is the best place. Good information on their website.

There is a lot of disagreement about what pyroluria is, how to treat it etc. Who to believe? I listen to my NT Anne Pemberton as this has been her area for ages and she runs a specialist course in the U.K. for practitioners. She says some is genetic and some is epigenetic (trauma based). One thing that everyone agrees on is that stress makes it worse. Any lifestyle changes that reduce stress will help. She uses a supplement with zinc and B6. She favours Klinghardt’s CORE or Epigenar’s GHPU.

I knew this was an underlying issue for me in 2015 but after discovering vA toxicity (2018) and listening to Garrett Smith, I stopped regular B6 supplementation. I now consider this to have been a mistake for me. Secondary issues have developed which scream B6 deficiency to me. We will see if this is correct as I re-address pyroluria and attend the specialist course and gain new information. Sadly Anne P doesn’t really buy into vA toxicity. She thinks it’s a peripheral issue in some, but not a core issue. She is more interested in energy medicine now.

PS Great news that Epsom salt baths are helping. Greg Nigh says he sees lots of gut symptom improvements with the nightly baths.

@jaj Ah, interesting questionnaire. Some things do apply to me, others don't. For instance, I've always liked to eat meat, and I never skipped breakfast in my life, so vital it is to me. I don't understand how people can go an entire morning and then eat their first bite of food for lunch. But I was such a pale kid and rather enjoyed being by myself most of the time, not being part of a big crowd which would kind of scare me. This one I thought was interesting: 28. Being bothered by being seated in the middle of the room in a restaurant. Yeah, I can totally relate to that. 🙂 And the fatigue is so pronounced it's really dragging me down. Some symptoms are indicative of pyroluria others aren't.

What are the tell-tale signs for you? And with high-dose zinc, aren't you concerned with depleting iron, which is necessary for proper metabolism too?

It probably would be helpful to work with a naturopath too who could perform those blood tests or at least is knowledgeable about the topic.

Anyway, I could always test how I feel after I supplement with some B6 and zinc. With the nutritional yeast I eat in the morning I get around 10 mg of B6 which I thought was plenty.

Nevertheless, I do wonder to what extent all the symptoms in the questionnaire could also be explained by vitamin A toxicity. Mine is still pretty elevated.

There are two other things I forgot to mention that changed following a regular Epsom salt bath protocol:

  1. Intestinal gas: Loud and happy winds of gas leave my body.
  2. Rumbling noises around the stomach area: I've read once that this is indicative of the body doing cleaning work.
