Tackling the Detox setback by Grant Genereux
Quote from sand on June 15, 2023, 11:15 pmHi @mike-2, welcome! Don't listen to people suggesting to follow G. Smith. He is not a doctor, and is honestly just out to make money on this thing. Follow carefully what Grant is saying in this forum (who is not making a single cent on this thing), and what users like @salt and @wavy is saying. Don't be afraid to go low VA by listening to fearmongering people such as this Andrew guy, who only wants his moment of fame by pushing the new thing that will supposedly save us all: eggs. This is excactly what we see G. Smith is doing by pushing various supplements. They only want to claim that they found the "new way". It is scarily similar to what happens in history with things like religion and not to mention diet pushers. This is not a popularity contest, so look at those who are not trying to be popular. Grants approach is very easy. Forget about supplements, make sure you get enough meat, and be strict and strong!

For various reasons that I'll delve into if needed, my wife and I (and 4 children) recently started lowering vitamin A intake...after years of high intake including cod liver oil years ago, and beef liver more recently.
I've been on and off various supplements for years now, and a couple I've tried fairly recently are TUDCA and ox bile, and I've found them very beneficial. And to me, it makes sense that they would help with vitamin A detox in that they would 'get things flowing' (get the bile moving).
However, I get the sense that others on the website might suggest against it for fear that it could be 'too much'. So my questions:
- Is my comment accurate? (that most suggest against means to get the bile flowing quickly (maybe too quickly?))
- Or, on the contrary has anyone else used these supplements and suggests them as part of the vitamin A detox protocol?
Thanks in advance for your time and comments
@mike-2 I have never taken TUDCA but one thing I do know is that once you start lowering vitamin A you don't want to get things flowing too much, at least not until all detox channels are properly supported and functioning well. Or this has the potential to wreak havoc and leak more A into the system. It's just a precaution. Slow and gentle is my approach.

Quote from Andrew B on June 16, 2023, 1:45 am@mike-2 I recommend using choline and betaine before lowering vitamin A too much. Eggs and beef hearts are a couple of ways to get the choline. Wheat/old grains, small amounts of quinoa and beetroot help betaine. They help bile flow and permeability first before you start increasing toxic bile flow too much. Other things that help are taurine foods, cholesterol, bicarbonate, cruciferous vegetables and bitter foods like ground decaffeinated coffee. TUDCA may play a short term role.

I used to think that all food problems could be fixed if only I was strict and strong. hahaha That mode of thinking got me into so much trouble.
Every health guru gets something wrong. Every single one.

Quote from lil chick on June 16, 2023, 4:56 amThere used to be a health guru named Matt Stone, and he left the inter webs. I can only guess why, and I may be putting my own thoughts onto him. In my opinion, he'd finally maxed out on the whole idea of special diets and diet gurus.
How did my great grandparents raise three children who lived to 100 without health gurus?
Traditional food served traditional ways, fed to people who ate to their tastes and urges.
When I came here I'd already maxed out with special diets and with diet gurus.
In my opinion what is needed here is a gentle swerve away from high VA. And delicious real food. And time. And happiness.
If you are dying, I might think differently. But maybe not.

Quote from Hermes on June 16, 2023, 5:14 amHi @mike-2, salt is right to say that eggs are somewhat controversial because they also contain some retinol, and of course that's the very thing we're trying to detoxify because we believe it's much more of a toxin than a vitamin. Now eggs also contain a lot of choline, actually the second most per weight, liver is the top one, but there the ratio of choline to vitamin A is unfavourable. Needless to say, stay away from liver. So does the choline outweigh the potential danger of the retinol in eggs? Andrew says it definitely does. He has client testimonials to back up his claim, as well as his own personal experience which led him to believe that choline is essential for detoxifying vitamin A. You can read more about this in the Eggs as part of Vitamin A reduction thread if you want to understand the nitty-gritty of it all.
Grant doesn't recommend eggs, but would rather people take a choline supplement such as sunflower lecithin or phosphatidylcholine. But it's important to remember that vitamins in food are much better absorbed by the body than a single nutrient, because there are also co-factors that make it easier for the body to absorb nutrients from food. What's more, in addition to choline, eggs contain valuable nutrients such as selenium, biotin, idodine and sphingomyelin, all of which are important nutrients in the detoxification of vitamin A.
I've tried to give you a balanced view on the subject, but as you can see, I'm not impartial either. I'm leaning slightly in favour of eggs as part of a vitamin A detox programme.
Judging by your profile picture, you look pretty healthy. So maybe you don't need extra choline in your diet to successfully detox vitamin A? When I started my vitamin A detox programme, I jumped on the bandwagon from one day to the next, and I regret that I didn't take the time to gradually reduce the high vitamin A foods in my diet. And I also wish I had known how helpful eggs can be. I am one of those people who have benefited greatly from eggs. I'd say the more robust your body is, the less likely you are to need extra choline. And by the way, you can always increase your choline intake by eating more meat. The best thing is for you and your family to try it out, be alert to any problems that may arise, and know that a vitamin A detox is never easy, it takes a lot of time and patience. One thing everyone here can agree on is that it's not a quick fix. I hope this has been helpful.

@lil-chickThat is a good point you make. We can get so lost in the details of things that we forget the bigger picture and overcomplicate things that should be natural. Now, it's a bit unfair to compare the eating habits of the 19th or 20th century to today because a lot, I mean a lot, has changed and contrary to what history books and scientists would have us believe, things have changed dramatically for the worse. The youth of today are inundated with a toxic world. Chemicals all around us, herbicides, pesticides, industrial chemicals (think sunscreens, make-up, lotions, dishwasher detergent, microplastics, low quality water supply, and on and on), EMF radiation (mobile phone towers, smart meters, extended mobile phone use, up to three, four hours a day, wifi exposure at school and home, in apartment complexes its compounded). Deteriorating food quality. A strong push for veganism and vegetarianism, an ill-informed food pyramid. The erosion of the social fabric, making people more lonely than ever. Fathers are working away from home, so today's children are growing up with very little male support, which is particularly damaging to our boys, who are being brought up largely by women (in kindergarten by female teachers, in primary and secondary school by female teachers). Mass vaccination of the population, which is completely harmful and deadly to humans (reports to VAERS have skyrocketed in recent years). Mass medicalisation of children and teenagers with SSRIs and other psychotropic drugs. It is literally insane! Everyone is so disconnected from their bodies, so stressed, our intuition is so distorted that we miss the North Star in our personal lives, our inner guidance is lost.We can't eat and drink intuitively anymore because our world is so artificial and we have become so sick in this sick world. And that's why it's so important to have clear guidance, to actually regain our health, to find what we've lost: our intuition.I don't want to sound alarmist, I just want to draw your attention to the fact that our world is fundamentally different from what it used to be. And that our current world is not conducive to good health. On the contrary.

Quote from lil chick on June 16, 2023, 7:48 amThere are those bears that just eat one food, what is it pandas? What if people went in and ruined that one thing? They might not actually ever find a good replacement. They might find a replacement that works for 10 years or one generation. They could go on and on for 40, 50, 100 years trying to get pandas to eat other things to replace their lost diet, or they could cut to the chase and un-ruin the original food. The ancestral diet they know works (without sacrificing any pandas for experimentation).

Quote from Deleted user on June 21, 2023, 11:52 pmThank you again Grant. Well said and helpful. Been working on this since 12/2022. 11/2022 found me living Aqualung's nightmare every hour or so - "screaming agony." 10 to 20 minute sleep intervals.
Worked my way up to a scoop of sunfiber per day in 1/2023 and a tablespoon of charcoal by 3/2023. Am now up to 2 to 3 tablespoons charcoal per day. Have been taking in all the apple pectin i can since 1/2023.
I started making progress with sleep in 2/2023 and finally broke through the pain levels to sleep more than 1.5 hour increments in 4/2023 when I started taking 10 mg of melatonin. Had read about it as a potent safe anti-inflammatory. Now I believe it.
I am eating mostly beef, oat meal, apples, dates, prunes and some lettuce and chicken. Supplements include Garrett's usual mineral recommendations and plenty of B1. So far I am steadily improving with no setbscks other than when I miss out on needed ingredients. Beef and B1 are probably the most vital.
Oh, and I use lamps or direct sun to get as much uvb and red and infrared as I can get. The difference I feel from a few hours of reading in full hot sun runs top to bottom skin to bone. The phrase "putting on the armor of God" comes to mind. I make sure to avoid washing off the vitamin D for at least 24 hours.
When I am on target, I sleep 7.5 to 12 hour increments. I am slowly rebuilding strength using Ben Patrick's ideas and getting back to labor with shovels, pitchforks and wheelbarrows. I guess I am in the detox setback vulnerable zone now. Glad to read i might be on track to avoid such fates.
Thank you again and please keep leading the way. If only all research scientists were required to earn engineering degrees before they go any further with research we would all be better for it.
