Logically, even if VA is a vitamin, it is quite unlikely that you would have gotten to the point of a severe deficiency  in just 6 months. Most people have far more VA stored than that, and given your history you probably have far more VA stored than the average person. Unless your diabetic condition somehow impairs your ability to store VA, it just seems unlikely.

Personally I believe taste/cravings are a very powerful way to discern your nutritional needs. Do you find yourself craving any of the VA-containing foods you have cut out? Have you tried just having a bite of some VA-rich food like say a fresh bell pepper, tomato sauce or an egg yolk and noting how they taste to you? If you taste a high-VA food and it make you go "Mhmm damn I want some more of that!" then maybe you do have a deficiency of some kind, if it just tastes kind of Meh to you then I doubt you need it. Although I guess being a diabetic does complicate this kind of testing.

It does seem unlikely doesn't it?  Things just aren't fitting the normal pattern of how detox should be...get worse and then better.  If it just gets worse something is off.  This is a good idea about taste.  I will try some egg yolk and see what my tongue says.

How do we really know if a symptom is 1.  cheat or mistake on low A diet  2. detox  3. healing or 4.  the regular progression of our problems?  The other day I woke up to a loud honk in my ear, a crazy symptom of what may be the beginnings of Menier's disease.  Maybe I would have woken to that honk whether or not I ever heard the name "Grant Genereux".  We're a bunch of people with a bunch of strange symptoms.  ;0

I suppose what we want to see is a graph with time on the X axis and symptoms on the Y and we want to see the clusters of data points always working eventually toward more health over time.

If not, we need to re-evaluate.

Something was said yesterday that struck me funny.  It was something like:  My family/husband didn't really even notice the diet difference much.

It's not like it's that odd (at least low A-- not zero A)

Maybe we need to almost pretend we aren't guinea pigging ourselves.  LOL

This doesn't address the underlying issues, but my husband has found a lot of relief and asthma control from twice daily sinus rinses and nebulizing a saline solution.  (In addition to inhalers, but he really feels the saline makes a difference for him, and for little cost and side effects.)

I'm sorry but I keep thinking about your issue.  How is your blood sugar regulation?  My asthmatic loved ones were always the sugar heads of the bunch.    Do your sugars get high?

My type 1 loved-one-- he's sort of crazy.  He is hyper fit and outdoorsy.   He's out there biking, hiking, conquering things more than any other person I know.  It must make him feel good.  He has the pump and he has spent weeks at the Jocelin clinic training  himself to monitor his needs and knows what he is up to.  He is literally a world class athlete.  He eats everything.

On the other side of the coin, there is a book written by a type 1 doc and who has decided to be ultra-low carb and feels that it has helped his health because he was never really satisfied with the control he had over his blood sugar.

Another thought that occurs is breathing habits.  The asthmatics I've known were mouth breathers.  The buteko methods have been mentioned on this site, might be worth a look.   My nose is so dry (vit a?) that sometimes I  stuff up and don't realize I'm mouth breathing.  Sometimes I feel a little asthmatic and I manage to feel better again just by nose breathing, thinking about the out-breath (and just letting the in breath come of it's own), and sipping cool water.   Once purposefully breathing better the airway clears itself (sometimes with coughing or blowing the nose).  It might be important not to lie too flat, and some people here have spoken about that too.

I dont know what hemisphere you are on, but keep in mind both light and heat intensifies VA metabolism. So if you are experiencing steadily worsening symptoms as the weather steadily gets brighter and hotter... well it doesn't necessarily mean you are developing a deficiency. Maybe at least keep the experiment going till the summer season is past and then reevaluate.

This is really interesting because I nebulize both saline and glutathione.  I wonder if the saline would be enough?  Man that would save me some money jeez.  They want to try me on singulair now.

I am in Arizona.  So basically the best place for VA detox...or worst?

My Blood sugars were great when I was getting sun.  Vitamin D really helps them  Since this asthma flare I have not been able to even walk much, so they have been not great.  I am definitely a mouth breather when the asthma is upon me.  Type 1s tend to be extreme.  They drink more coffee, drink more alcohol, are more easily depressed.  Basically all adds up to be more of an addictive personality in whatever you are doing.

@tar, I was wondering if are you have been eating nuts or chocolate regularly?

So dude, you need to be fixing your sugars!    That would be my numero uno.   🙂

Next week I wanna hear your progress on getting those sugars good!

ps:  I almost feel like 30 years ago they did a better job of teaching my loved one how to get his sugars RIGHT than they do now.
