Blood pressure and cholesterol levels

PreviousPage 4 of 7Next

@Orion, yes it was finger prick. It just measured total cholesterol and blood glucose. I think the test is designed to be a quick pre-screening. I figured it couldn’t hurt since my cholesterol had dropped so much already to get a rough idea if it had changed.

I'm 8 weeks in and my blood pressure has dropped substantially. I was for several years at stage 2 hypertension hovering around 160/90, now I'm down to 135/75.

I'm cncerned about eating all the red meat in this low A diet raising my cholesterol.

Should I be worried about red meat?

Also would you have any suggestions on lowering my cholesterol besides eliminating A which I’m already doing?

TIA

John

You should watch this documentary, called 'Fat Head.' It's a kind of debunking of 'Supersize Me' and fear of saturated fat/cholesterol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs

My cholesterol and BP numbers have been moving in a direction that has my GP asking what I'm doing. Gave her Grant's blog address and I'm hoping she'll take a look....

Sorry I don't have numbers.

After 8 months low vitamin A, my blood pressure is still 90/60 (or less), and my cholesterol is the same (all within range - didn’t need to improve). Other symptoms (eczema, etc) have improved.

I’m happy to report that my cholesterol is still within normal limits and the LDL is improved. My blood pressure runs 115/70 these days. I started low A 16 months ago and about 4-5 months ago I stopped being as strict. I eat occasional eggs and cheese and butter frequently. I do not eat any plant sources of A/carotenes at this time.

Hi @bella, have you re-tested you VA RBP levels recently?

@orion, Sorry to say not yet. It’s been a tough year financially. This year is the lowest income I’ve made in over 20 years and not for lack of trying. I also just got health insurance again. My husband received a serious heart/lung diagnosis a couple months ago as well so the bills have been racking up quickly. Fortunately I’m quite well because one of us needs to be! I promise I will get it done by the end of the month though and report back!

Hey @bella glad to hear you are doing good!  Hope your husband pulls through, and super argh to the american health receipts that pile up!   Super curious to see your numbers, since you have tracked from the start.  Thanks

Thank you. Yes the medical system here is super frustrating. I will definitely post my results as soon as possible!
