Vitamin D fast depletion on Vitamin A toxicity
Quote from romaine on March 23, 2020, 10:46 amI know Gundry disagrees but lectins aren't a big deal for most people if the source is cooked well. Some cultures depend on beans for the bulk of their diet and are very healthy.
"Some lectins may be harmful and may be responsible for damaging the intestinal wall leading to nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. It’s also possible that people with digestive issues such as Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome are more sensitive to the damaging potential of lectins. But, proper cooking eliminates the harmful ones almost completely (more on how to make sure you’re properly cooking your beans below)."

Quote from Jiří on March 23, 2020, 11:00 amWell Gundry is just a quack that wants to make easy money. That's all it is. Of course lectins from legumes are not a problem for healthy people. But if someone has issues like me with almost everything. You can feel it. Even very well cooked beans in pressure cooker will f**ck me up... Btw it is not just about antinutrients. It is also about crazy high content of fermentable fiber.. Any kind of FODMAP gives me bloating, gass and constipation. Even things like apple..

Quote from romaine on March 25, 2020, 7:52 pmJust because you aren't healthy or well doesn't mean you can't tollerate beans. I tollerate them very well, i.e., they don't f**k me up. They didn't f**k up Grant when he was still suffering vitamin A toxicity and they don't f**k up others here that have health issues. Beans aren't high in lectins if cooked propperly and they aren't bad for everyone with vitamin A toxicity.

Quote from r on March 25, 2020, 7:55 pmwrong , I am from a culture where we soak beans over night and cook them very well, we very well know how to cook beans believe me , but they still cause terrible colitis to me . I used to tolerate them once , but after a while I couldn't

Quote from romaine on March 25, 2020, 8:09 pmHow am I "wrong"? I never said that everyone can eat beans. I was pointing out that they are not high in lectins when cooked the right way because @jiri wrote "beans are high in lectins". ANNNNDDDDDD , just because one is not healthy doesn't mean that they can't eat beans! Please read more carefully before telling me I'm wrong. Many people thrive on beans - correct. Many here do well eating beans despite health issues- correct. Cooked beans aren't high in lectins - correct.

Quote from jobo on March 25, 2020, 9:33 pmI like following as much advice as i can that is the direct opposite of what the guru ray peat has to say. Ever since doing that i have felt better. It just so happens ray peat demonizes beans! he thinks they are a crap food and a major contributor to hypothyroidism. So i avoided them for years. However about a year ago i started eating them and they are simply awesome. I now love beans.

They are high in lectins in comparison with other foods. By cooking you will LOWER lectin content not eliminate it completely and obviously the amount how much lectin can someone tolerate is very different. Some people can eat 3 big cans of beans and feel fantastic. I will soak cook in the pressure cooker the shit out of 100g of beans and the next day I can't move. Everything is hurting from joints to muscles. So what is the cause of this if not lectins??? Lectins are doing exactly what my symptoms are. Inflammation.. Btw Obviously Grant didn't had issues with the colon. I have issues with everything harder to digest from when I was like 13yo. If I eat something with gluten for example the next day huge water retention, cystic acne two days later etc.. Again perfect example of leaky gut.. People who have even more serious gut issues they can't even look at legumes lol. There is no food that is harder to digest than legumes.

Quote from Orion on March 26, 2020, 5:40 am@r-2 @jiri @romaine Just my thoughts, but I think after extended low VA, the gut should get back to normal, this if the gut lining was damaged by retinoic acid. Seems to be my case so far, beans used to cause a lot of discomfort, not as much as r, but now I am able to consume larger amounts without issue. I avoided them for so long due to RPs thoughts as well, prepared properly they seem like a super food, vitamins and minerals to get VA transformed for excretion and soluble fiber to mop up VA in bile when eating.

I had no health issues up to 13yo. Eating dairy, a lot of gluten etc.. 14-15yo I had 5-6 amalgams and gut pain started, after that acne. All kinds of acne and allergies. I am 100% sure that mercury toxicity + diet low in key nutrients like zinc, copper, selenium, magnesium even vit C etc.. Started all this. After that I started with bodybuilding so diet mainly rice and meat = less acne, but unfortunately as a stupid 20yo I started with steroids = acne again = accutane. After accutane and bodybuilding "healthy life style" so Weston Price, paleo, plant based, Ray Peat.. So here I am... Amalgams safely removed 14 months ago and started low vit A diet like 8 months ago. So hopefully once the body will detox all mercury, excess of vit A and rebuild mineral and vit D stores. My gut will heal and I can finally eat "normal" diet. But of course I would apply everything what I learned over the years...

Quote from r on March 26, 2020, 6:06 amsame here , I had great health before 5 years ago , fast metabolism , lean and ripped , but skinny ( which was actually a sign of good health ) . I started body building and to gain weight I thought multi vitamin would help, it had very high amount of retnol on top I used to take cod liver oil which makes it exponentially worse .
I tried everything , but plant based was a catastrophic one , it messed up my gut so bad gave me colitis , went though two colonoscopies .
